The scent
Steam-distilled from black peppercorns, the small dark berries of a climbing vine. It opens crisp and sharply peppery, then settles into a warm, dry, woody heart with a faint fruity note underneath.
It sits well beside cedarwood or vetiver, and a bright citrus such as bergamot lightens it. A lively accent for a reading nook on autumn afternoons, with a good book to hand.
